Clock hours and your study schedule

Why program hours and calendar duration are different.

SHIMAA ACADEMY EDITORIAL · OCTOBER 12, 2026

What the website lists

The school has supplied three program lengths: 1,000 clock hours for Cosmetology, 750 for Esthetics, and 300 for Class A Barber to Cosmetology crossover. Comparing these totals is a useful first step, but each program serves a different education pathway. A shorter program is not automatically interchangeable with a longer one.

Plan around the timetable

A clock-hour total does not establish an advertised graduation date. Your calendar plan depends on the school’s actual schedule, attendance requirements, and any applicable breaks. Ask admissions to explain the current timetable and how progress is tracked, especially if you are planning study around work or family commitments.

Confirm the details in writing

Before enrolling, request the current program schedule and relevant attendance policies. Ask how absences, schedule changes, and make-up time are handled. Review the school’s written answers together with the catalog and enrollment agreement. Completing a listed number of hours does not itself promise a license, job, or income.
